Mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim10
TIMM10 (mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim10) is a small mitochondrial chaperone protein that facilitates the import and insertion of multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane (UniProt: P62072). It protects hydrophobic precursors from aggregation as they transit the intermembrane space and may also participate in the transfer of β-barrel precursors from the TOM to the SAM complex.
The protein functions within mitochondrial protein import pathways critical for maintaining mitochondrial function and bioenergetics. No specific disease mutations or associations are documented in UniProt for TIMM10.
In Alzheimer's Disease, TIMM10 is downregulated in post-mortem brain tissue relative to age-matched controls, with a mean log2 fold-change of −0.35 (Chaparral AD proteomics). This finding was derived from TMT-labeled proteomics of four subcellular fractions. The downregulation suggests impaired mitochondrial import capacity may contribute to bioenergetic stress in AD brain.
