E3 ubiquitin-protein transferase RMND5A
E3 ubiquitin-protein transferase RMND5A (RMND5A) is a core component of the CTLH E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex involved in selective ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins, including the transcription factor HBP1 (UniProt: Q9H871). The protein functions as part of a catalytic complex that requires both MAEA and RMND5A for activity and is necessary for normal cell proliferation.
RMND5A is expressed across human tissues and participates in ubiquitin-mediated proteolytic signaling pathways. No inherited disease associations are documented in UniProt for this protein.
In Alzheimer's disease, RMND5A is down-regulated in post-mortem AD brain tissue compared to age-matched controls (mean log2 fold-change: −0.59; Chaparral AD proteomics). This reduction was observed in a quantitative proteomic analysis of human post-mortem brain using tandem mass tag labeling across four subcellular fractions. The functional consequence of reduced RMND5A levels in AD pathology remains to be characterized.
