protein
Cadherin-13
Cadherin-13 is a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein encoded by CDH13 that mediates homophilic cell–cell interactions and may negatively regulate neural cell growth (UniProt: P55290). As a member of the cadherin family, it contributes to cellular sorting and architecture, with particular relevance to neural tissues.
In the context of Alzheimer's disease, cadherin-13 has been evaluated in human post-mortem AD brain tissue. Analysis of four subcellular fractions (P2, P3, S2, S3) via tandem mass tag proteomics revealed downregulation of cadherin-13 in AD brain compared to age-matched controls (Chaparral AD proteomics), with a mean log2 fold-change of −0.38. This reduction may reflect compromise of cell adhesion and neural architecture in the AD brain.
