protein
Transforming acidic coiled-coil-containing protein 2
TACC2 (Transforming acidic coiled-coil-containing protein 2) is a large cytoplasmic protein involved in microtubule organization and centrosome function (UniProt: O95359). It plays a role in microtubule-dependent coupling of the nucleus and centrosome, and is implicated in centrosome-mediated interkinetic nuclear migration in neural progenitors. The protein may also function as a tumor suppressor.
TACC2 is expressed in neural tissues where it regulates centrosomal microtubule organization and nuclear-centrosomal dynamics critical for neurogenesis (UniProt: O95359). No baseline disease associations are documented in UniProt.
TACC2 is downregulated in Alzheimer's disease brain tissue relative to age-matched controls, with a mean log2 fold-change of −0.66 (Chaparral AD proteomics). This reduction was observed across post-mortem human brain samples analyzed by quantitative proteomics, suggesting impaired microtubule and centrosome organization may contribute to AD pathology.
